Program Overview
Qi Gong (pronounced "chee gong") is an ancient Chinese practice that focuses on cultivating and harmonizing Qi—the vital energy within your body. Through gentle movements, intentional breathwork, and visualization techniques, Qi Gong promotes health, vitality, and inner balance in a practice accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels.
Our program introduces traditional Qi Gong forms and exercises designed to enhance energy flow, reduce stress, and support overall well-being. With roots dating back thousands of years, these practices have stood the test of time, offering a holistic approach to physical and mental health that complements modern wellness routines.
Our sessions are gentle yet purposeful, creating space for mindful movement and deep relaxation. You don't need previous experience, flexibility, or fitness—just a willingness to slow down, breathe, and explore movement that serves your body and mind. Each practice leaves you feeling more centered, energized, and connected.
Led by an experienced instructor trained in traditional Qi Gong practices, our classes create a peaceful, supportive environment where you can explore this transformative practice at your own pace and experience the benefits of ancient wisdom applied to modern life.

Instructors
Jim Garofolo, LAc, MS
James brings a rare intersection of Eastern wisdom and Western science to his practice—blending 11 years as a U.S. Air Force translator fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, a decade of elite coaching in functional movement, and advanced training in Traditional East Asian Medicine.
After serving his country and honing discipline through language and leadership in the Air Force, James transitioned to coaching, where he spent 10 years guiding athletes and individuals through transformative strength and conditioning programs. Recognizing the limits of physical training alone, he pursued formal education in Exercise Science at Ithaca College, then deepened his expertise with a Master's degree in Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine from New York Chiropractic College—becoming a Licensed Acupuncturist specializing in pain management, holistic healing, and the integration of lifestyle medicine.
James' approach is rooted in meeting people where they are. Whether you're managing chronic pain, seeking balance in a demanding life, or exploring movement and mindfulness for the first time, he creates space for self-discovery, sustainable healing, and long-term well-being. His work is informed by over 15 years of coaching experience, certifications in Qi Gong and meditation instruction, and a deep respect for the body's innate capacity to heal when given the right tools.
As a meditation and Qi Gong instructor, James guides students in developing practices that cultivate internal awareness, resilience, and presence—helping you build a foundation for wellness that extends far beyond the treatment table or the studio.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience with Tai Chi?
No prior experience is necessary. Tai Chi is accessible to complete beginners and can be learned at any age or fitness level. Our instructor will guide you through each movement with clear instruction and patience, allowing you to progress at your own pace.
Is Tai Chi a good workout?
While Tai Chi is gentle and low-impact, it builds strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance over time. The slow, controlled movements engage muscles deeply and improve coordination, posture, and body awareness. Many practitioners find it surprisingly challenging in the best way—strengthening the body while calming the mind.
How is Tai Chi different from yoga or Qi Gong?
Tai Chi, yoga, and Qi Gong all emphasize mindful movement and breath, but they differ in approach. Tai Chi is rooted in martial arts tradition and focuses on flowing, continuous sequences that cultivate balance and grounded strength. Qi Gong emphasizes energy cultivation through specific postures and breathwork. Yoga incorporates static poses, flexibility, and varied styles. All three complement each other beautifully.
Can Tai Chi help with balance and fall prevention?
Yes. Tai Chi is widely recognized for improving balance, stability, and coordination—making it particularly beneficial for older adults or anyone concerned with fall prevention. The slow, weight-shifting movements strengthen the legs, improve proprioception (body awareness in space), and build confidence in movement.
Is Tai Chi suitable for people with injuries or chronic pain?
Tai Chi is gentle and adaptable, making it suitable for many people managing injuries, arthritis, or chronic pain. However, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before starting any new movement practice. Our instructor can offer modifications to accommodate individual needs.
